Welcome to Lima! Upon arriving at Lima airport, you will be taken and checked into your Lima hotel.
Afterward, you’ll be able to take in the sights and sounds while taking this incredible Metropolitan city tour.
Your flight to Cusco will land early in the morning. The city is situated at an elevation of 11,150 feet or 3,400 meters. Try to take it easy on the first day, drink plenty of water, and don’t overeat.
You will be able to have some free time to explore the majestic city of Cusco.
You should check out one of many museums or perhaps visit San Pedro Market. Once the afternoon comes around, you’ll meet your expert guide for a tour of the city of Cusco, where you’ll be able to see the Cathedral, the Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), and the massive ruins of Sacsayhuaman that overlook the city.
End the day with dinner at one of Cusco’s finest restaurants.
Get ready for an incredible day in the Sacred Valley. Haggle with the locals at Pisac Market for a variety of handmade clothing, climb to the top of the Ollantaytambo fortress for a fantastic view of the terraced valley, and gaze at the snow-capped peaks of the Andes’ most sacred mountains.
You’ll also enjoy a feast of Peruvian specialties at a restaurant in Urubamba. At night, you’ll sleep in a comfortable Sacred Valley hotel.
We begin the 6th day of our 10 day Peru Itinerary with a hearty breakfast. Today we are heading to the town of Aguas Calientes, located at the bottom of Machu Picchu. To reach the quaint little town, we have some traveling to do first. So get ready for about 2 hours on one of the most beautiful train rides to exist.
We start by getting together at 5 am. Then, we ride the shuttle up to Machu Picchu and arrive by 6:00 am in time to enter the ancient city for the Sunrising over the Andes. Upon arrival, you’ll witness the ancient Inca citadel, a mystical location hidden for hundreds of years.
Your professional tour guide will take you for a tour around Machu Picchu’s most important sights. After that, you’ll take a train ride back to Cusco; however, you have the option to include an overnight stay in Aguas Calientes and a second-day visit to the ruins.
Pack your bags, enjoy breakfast, and prepare for your transfer to the airport and your journey back home. Otherwise, you can take one of our other breathtaking Cusco tours or Sacred Valley excursions or browse our full range of fully customizable Peru tours to see how you can extend your Latin American vacation.
After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll head to Puno via bus, southeast through the Andes. Once you arrive at the bus station in Puno, you will be escorted to your Lake Titicaca hotel overlooking the lakeshore. Finally, enjoy dinner at your hotel or look at our Puno Travel Guide for restaurant recommendations.
*Transportation options between Cusco and Puno include bus, plane, and train travel.
Perfect for enthusiast photographers, your day will be filled with picturesque views of the magnificent Lake Titicaca and the glacier-capped mountains that surround it. In addition, you will be taken to the floating islands of Uros, built from thick, hand-woven mats of totora reeds, and Taquile Island, home to a community renowned for its textiles and handicrafts.
There is an archaeological site on Taquile that provides exceptional lakeside views. You must climb 500 stone steps to get there, so make sure you’re ready with plenty of water, sunblock, and comfortable shoes. You will be back in Puno by the early evening. Relax at your hotel or head to the city center to enjoy traditional Peruvian cuisine at one of the local restaurants.
After having breakfast at your hotel, you can transfer to the airport for your journey home. You may also continue exploring this country’s wonders by adding an extra day in Puno or any other of our Peru travel destinations.
